Red Sox Trade Rumors – Cuddyer and Beltran

leave a comment »

Sean McAdam reports Mike Cuddyer and Carlos Beltran will be on the short list of possible RF trade pick-up candidates for the Red Sox.

Either would be a good acquisition – although my choice is Hunter Pence of the Astros. He would be more expensive, something like:

  • Start with Ryan Kalish or Josh Reddick.
  • Add a top pitching prospect. Maybe not Anthony Ranaudo. But probably someone like Felix Doubront or Kyle Weiland.
  • And close with another positional prospect like Will Middlebrooks.

The trade package would be Adrian Gonzalez Lite – but Pence would be worth it. Pence is 3rd in the NL in average – and at 28 years old, is just hitting his prime.

Back to Cuddyer and Beltran.

The Twins are a long way out of the AL Central race but their fans bang out their stadium – so it would be tough for them to abandon a pennant chase. Even with Cuddyer a free agent to be.

The Mets are playing better but have pretty much written off 2011. They will take what they can get for Beltran before he hits free agency.

Two more candidates:

  • Jeff Francoeur of Kansas City – they are building; every veteran should be available.
  • Carlos Quentin of the Chicago White Sox – Dayan Viciedo needs some place to play.
